About

Somewhere down the road a ways between the juke joint, the roadhouse, and the honkey tonk…

Rock and roll is a true American art form, with its deepest roots in the African American music forms like jazz and blues. Evolving and growing into the 21st century, the Colin Helton Band blends these forms with country and bluegrass, infusing it all with rich storytelling to make a truly dazzling live music experience hinging on the thoughtful vignettes within Colin’s songs.

Formed with a love of good song craft, and expansive, exploratory rock and roll performances, the Colin Helton Band has been performing its brand of original music and covers to the Central Illinois area for the past four years. The quintet takes cues from the classic FM lineups of bands – two guitars, drums, bass, and keyboards, with every member able to sing.

While the classic rock era looms large in importance for the band, songwriter Helton brings a broad variety of influences to his own songwriting. From the Great American Songbook, to Nashville’s music row, all the way to include the folk traditions of murder ballads, Helton writes engaging lyrical vignettes that draw the listener in and tell a fully developed story. Pairing them with beautiful, sophisticated but singable melodies, and hook-laden backing, the combination is a knockout.
